Research Areas

The group’s research centers on the design, synthesis and study of functional nanomaterials, with emphasis on low-dimensional carbon derivatives, hybrid organic–inorganic frameworks, and atomically engineered architectures. Through tailored chemical control of graphene and other two-dimensional systems, exploiting interfacial chemistry, single-atom engineering, and advanced spectroscopy, the group seeks to elucidate structure–property relationships that underpin performance in technological applications such as in in energy storage and catalysis. Indicative publications: Nat. Nanotechnol.; Adv. Mater.; Nat. Commun. (Photocatalysis), Nat. Commun. (catalysis, biofuels), Energy Env. Sci.; Adv. Energy Mater.; Energy Env. Sci. (energy storage), Chemical Reviews; Adv. Mater.; Chem; ACS Catal. (single atom engineering).

The group has direct access to central facilities. For example: HR-TEM, HR-XPS, operando electrochemical XRD/Raman, EPR spectroscopy, battery cyclers, precision potentiostats, HPLC/GC chromatographs, NMR, reactors.
