Nový přehledový článek v oblasti výzkumu nanometrického oxidu železitého
The cover art in the current issue of Chemistry of Materials, a prestigious journal of the American Chemical Society, has been suggested by researchers of RCPTM. In this issue they have published a review paper on polymorphous transformations of nanometric iron(III) oxide (L. Machala, J. Tucek, and R. Zboril, Polymorphous Transformations of Nanometric Iron(III) Oxide: A Review, Chem. Mater. 2011, 23, 3255, see link http://pubs.acs.org/doi/abs/10.1021/cm200397g). Despite the fact that iron(III) oxide is one of the most known and most extensively studied representatives of polymorphous compounds, this review constitutes the first attempt to cover various aspects related to the mutual transformations of all Fe2O3 polymorphs. Thus, high-temperature and high-pressure induced Fe2O3 transitions are firstly properly reviewed taking into account influence of various conditions on their mechanisms and kinetics. Moreover, this review work closes with discussion of some future challenges in the field of research of Fe2O3 polymorphs mainly with regard to the specific roles of particle (nano)dimension, morphology, and interactions.
In fact, the review follows a series of review papers published by the researchers of RCPTM in the field of iron(III) oxide, which have been focused on Fe2O3 systematization (Chem. Mater. 2002, 14, 969, see link http://pubs.acs.org/doi/abs/10.1021/cm0111074), specific aspects of amorphous iron oxide phase (J. Phys. Chem. B 2007, 111, 4003, see link http://pubs.acs.org/doi/abs/10.1021/jp064992s) and e-Fe2O3 nanophase (Chem. Mater. 2010, 22, 6483, see link http://pubs.acs.org/doi/abs/10.1021/cm101967h).
