Aby Cheruvathoor Poulose

Dr. Aby Cheruvathoor Poulose is a senior researcher at the Czech Advanced Technology and Research Institute (CATRIN), Palacký University Olomouc, and a member of the Functional Materials for Energy Storage and Catalysis group. His research spans nanomaterials synthesis, advanced characterization, and application across plasmonic and heterogeneous photocatalysis, energy conversion, and nanomedicine. He designs semiconducting nanocrystals, graphene-based nanocomposites, and hybrid structures with enhanced optical, electrical, and catalytic properties.

He earned his PhD from Toyo University, Japan, focusing on semiconductor nanocrystals for biological imaging and solar light harvesting, following an MSc in Chemistry from Mahatma Gandhi University and a BSc in Chemistry from Calicut University (India). In India, he was awarded the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) and the UGC Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) in Chemical Science. He is a recipient of the Marie Skłodowska-Curie fellowship and the Japanese Government (Monbukagakusho: MEXT) Scholarship.

His broader experience includes academic research appointments in India, Japan, Austria, and the Czech Republic, as well as earlier industrial experience at JEOL, where he supported advanced microscopy and surface-analysis workflows and delivered training and workshops for academic researchers and professors. Dr. Aby has authored 50 peer-reviewed publications and holds two patents, reflecting sustained contributions to nanomaterials research. He actively engages with the community through invited talks, oral presentations, and participation in international conferences.
